I am somewhat undecided about the edges of the gear teeth and wheel, but I am the sort of person who likes to be absolutely certain. A good planer will produce a lovely gear wheel, but as with anything there are always mistakes and mistakes are too often expensive and/or difficult to correct. A router can be taken out and the surface smoothed, but the wear and tear due to daily operation makes this labor intensive then repetitious.
The clock and its components received a little love in the first part of this blog with the Rust Breather. But the wood of this clock is in desperate need of it. So, as promised, we will prob gear to build a Ash Wooden Clock Boot to fit a Waterford soldered-in Bronze Wooden Clock. This is the conclusion to the previous blog. Now we will repair and refinish the wooden parts of the clock. In this blog, we will be soldering on the bronze decorative gear and the bronze components of the case.
The wood that the edge of the gear wheel has been cut into by the cutting bands must be beveled back to get the bevel to be the same as the other parts of the wood. The easiest way to do this is to use a circular saw with a 45 degree up-side-down bevel blade. The teeth cut through the wood so the saw should obviously be perpendicular to the wood surface. The cut- through cut will leave a lot of material in the wood so you have to fill that in with filler or it will be a beveled mess! d2c66b5586
